Ilari Kinnunen is the Managing Director of FinnCobalt Oy and leads the development of the Hautalampi critical raw materials project in Finland. He has extensive experience in mining, project development, permitting, and operational leadership, with a professional background spanning mine management, geology, and resource development.
His current focus is on advancing the responsible production of critical raw materials, particularly nickel, cobalt, and copper, as well as precious metals recovered as by-products. His work covers both mine development and mineral exploration projects. These materials are essential for Europe’s battery value chain, electrification, industrial competitiveness, and strategic autonomy, including applications critical to defence and security.
Ilari is an active advocate for responsible mining and sustainable resource development, promoting solutions that support both industrial growth and the green transition while strengthening Europe’s resilience and security of supply in critical raw materials.
