Dr. Ariane Cruz Gomes is the co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Baseimmune.

Since founding Baseimmune in late 2019, Ariane has acted as CEO and CSO, leading the fundraise of £4.2M in total for Baseimmune with her co-founders. She’s responsible for executive and scientific strategy and oversees company operations.

Ariane is a biologist specialised in immunology and vaccine development with 15 years of hands-on experience working in laboratories. She started her career working in the pharma sector in quality control in Brazil and then moved to R&D. She holds a PhD in Clinical Medicine from the Nuffield Department of Medicine (U. of Oxford, 2018) where oversaw the development and testing of 6 vaccines against a range of diseases including HPV, Malaria, Melanoma, and Influenza. Following the completion of her PhD studies, Ariane worked as a Research Fellow at University College London, investigating protective humoral responses of vaccines against chronic viruses.

With about a decade of research, Ariane authored a total of 19 publications in indexed peer-reviewed journals. She also ventured into podcasting focusing on career development and research pathways for early-career researchers in Brazil.
